What's going to bring in the biggest returns for each particular neighborhood? One hundred thousand unique citizens will live within the game, all with different wants and needs. But before that can happen, players have to think about the bottom line. As the game progresses, sections of the city build up, become crowded and soon, an entire New York skyline will become visible. Eventually the whole of Manhattan will open up, but for the time being, only the street plan will be visible in the 11 locked districts. The beginners haunt is none other than Greenwich Village, a hipster hangout that should serve as good beginnings for many types of start up businesses. Players will actually begin the game in a small portion of New York, opening up new neighborhoods after certain goals have been met. Developer Deep Red ( Vega$ Tycoon) seems to realize this even from a gaming standpoint. It's hard to start up a business anywhere so beginning in New York is probably a tough way to go. It's just a matter of getting in and building up. Business tycoons are made and broken on the fast and furious streets of the Big Apple all the time. New York city is arguably the hub of the modern world for better or worse. Certainly what was shown needs some work, but the frame of the game was intriguing. The decision to pass on the big show apparently came down to the simple fact that the game is still around three months away from alpha state. It's an interesting premise and one that Atari has decided to show only at the pre-E3 event. Tycoon City: New York not only allows players to do that, but actually models the entire city in 3D as well. Thankfully, the years and lack of funding seems to have thinned out the crowd and allowed them to focus on grander things, such as the conquering of New York. Would it be Tennis Shoe Tycoon? Perhaps a little bit of the Fish Monger Tycoon? It was hard to tell.
